Adrian commenced vocal studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Arthur Reckless and later with Ian Partridge CBE and Sir Peter Pears CBE. He studies with Paul Farrington, chief technical vocal consultant with the Royal Opera House, London.

He was previously a Lay Clerk at Ely Cathedral, subsequently deputy Lay Vicar and Vicar Choral at Westminster Abbey and St Pauls Cathedral, and later at H.M Chapel Royal, Hampton Court.

Adrian made his London debut as a soloist at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in 1985, subsequently working widely in Britain as a concert singer working with many leading orchestras and appearing at festivals in concert halls and cathedrals, including extensive work with choral societies.  His concert repertoire is wide ranging, from the Passions of Bach, Schutz, Purcell and Handel to twentieth century works by Honneger, Tippett, Burgon and Britten. As a recitalist he has specialised in Lieder, Aria Antiche  and English Song. Lute and early English song of Purcell, Blow and Humfrey to Arne, Quilter, Delius, Bridge and Warlock. Works by Mozart and Haydn feature among representative music of the earlier Italian masters and the great German song cycles of Schubert, Schumann and Brahms.

His work, both a soloist and professional choral singer has included commercial recording and broadcasts for the BBC. He was a professional member of the City Glee Club from 1989 to 2019.
 
In recognition of his work he was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) in 1999 for distinction within the profession. He was elected a member of the Royal Society of Musicians in 2020 and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He retired from the concert platform in 2016.
